Tak province declares to be model for provision of healthy school lunches

TAK, Aug 2 (TNA) – Tak province announced it is ready to be the model province in providing nutritious meals for school children. Tak governor, Charoenrit Sanguan-sat said the province and Thai Health Promotion Foundation jointly declared the lunch school policy to support schools to adopt the Thai School Lunch programme to offer healthy meals for students with evaluation by the state mechanism. School and community network will participate in lunch provision programme. The province will give financial support, technology and personnel to schools in running the project. Meanwhile, Sa-nga Damapong, a nutritionist to the Thai Health Promotion Foundation said it is expected the programme will be expanded to cover schools in the province in the second semester of 2019. He suggested that schools should have local nutritionists to assist them in provisions of quality lunches. A local official said there are 36 schools under the Tak municipality. They are implementing the school lunch policy and more training will be conducted for teachers from Aug 20-23. (TNA)
