Phuket piers inspected to restore tourists’ confidence
PHUKET, Aug 3 (TNA) – The deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau led a group of Chinese journalists to inspect standard dockyard and piers to restore Chinese tourists’ confidence.
Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakparn brought journalists from many Chinese media organizations to such places. The guests included journalists from Headline Thailand, China Radio, People Daily, Sing Sian Yer Pao, ManGu and NetEase.
Pol Maj Gen Surachate showed them standard boats, dockyard and piers. The places where the delegation visited included Chalong, Rassada, Visit Panwa and Boat Lagoon piers and Rattanachai dockyard.
The deputy commissioner showed efficient traffic control for tour boats. Drivers and attendants of tour boats must present their identities and details of their boats, passengers and their destinations before departures.
Pol Maj Gen Surachate said there were about 400 tour boats. Authorities checked 200 boats and found problems with ten boats which were already suspended. Besides, police, naval officers and lifeguards manned 24 local piers to ensure safety, he said.
“Short and long-term measures are in place to ensure confidence among visitors. For Chinese tourists, VIP channels have been opened especially for them at the airport to maximize their conveniences and show sincere care for them,” Pol Maj Gen Surachate said. (TNA)
