PM worries over high level water at Kaeng Krachan Dam
BANGKOK, Aug 6 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has voiced his concern over water levels in all of the country's water holding facilities in particular the Kaeng Krachan Dam in Phetchaburi while the public has also been warned to brace for possible flooding.
Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that Gen Prayut has ordered all relevant departments to closely monitor water levels at all storage facilities in the country in particular at the Kaeng Krachan Dam after receiving reports that sustained heavy rains in the past several days had caused a significant rise in water levels.
The massive inflows threatens to overflow into the dam's spillways which will, as a result, overburden the Petchaburi Dam downstream and cause flooding in Petchaburi municipality.
Lt Gen Sansern said that water levels at the Kaeng Krachan Dam this year was 80 cm to 1 meter higher than last year which could cause floods to last up to 1-2 months. Last year's flood lasted for 1 month.
The spokesman added that Gen Prayut had sent an order to Phetchabur governor through the Ministry of Interior to warn its residents to prepare for possible flooding by moving their valuables to higher ground and make contingency plans for their daily routines. (TNA)
