Prime Minister presents donations to Myanmar

BANGKOK, Aug 6 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-Ocha delivered a message of condolence and handed over financial aid to help the victims of natural calamities to Myanmar ambassador U Myo Myint Than today. Gen Prayut relayed the Thai people's and the government's sorrow that many territories in Myanmar has been hit by natural disasters and was initially donating 3 million baht in financial aid. The Prime Minister also informed the ambassador that at the next cabinet meeting, a decision will be made on what other aid can be provided to the people of Myanmar. In response, the Myanmar ambassador expressed appreciation toward goodwill of the Thai government and people. The financial aid for flood disaster relief has proved true friendship during a friend’s tough times. Myanmar is suffering widespread flooding due to the heavy rains in the past several days. Rivers have overflowed their banks and inundated many villages. The majority of farmlands have been destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people have had to be evacuated from Tanao Sri division (formerly known as Tenasserim), the Hmong and Karen states as well as Bagu or Pegu the capital of the Bago region. Thailand has already sent substantial food and other vital necessities to help Myanmar which reflects the long bond between the two neighbours and the friendly relations of its peoples. (TNA)
