"Art & Design 2018" to be held in Bangkok

BANGKOK, August 6 (TNA) - Thailand-based Silpakorn University (SU) and UK-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a world most recognized-university ranking firm, will jointly organize the QS Totally Arts Summit 2018 (Art & Design 2018) in Bangkok in late October, in which global experts and students on arts and designs are welcome to participate to present their master pieces and exchange their experiences. Silpakorn University Rector Dr. Wanchai Sutananta told journalists on Monday that his university is the first higher educational institute in the world that has been selected by QS to jointly host such a QS Totally Arts Summit. Dr. Wanchai acknowledged that Silpakorn University is the first Thai university that has offered courses on arts and designs to students and has, thus, become wellknown and recognized domestically and internationally in the areas. According to the rector, issues for discussions that will be the highlights of the Art & Design 2018, which is set to be held at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok Hotel during October 24-26 and themed "21th Century Education:Nurturing Passion with Purpose, include Reinventing Art and Design Education, Art and Design as Fundamentals of the Creative Economy, Purpose and Impact: Art in Contemporary Human Society and Measuring Passion: Metrics for Excellence in Art and Design Educator. Besides, world renowned artists will deliver their speeches to share their experiences and to inspire international participants, namely Professor Shiro Matsui from Kyoto City University of Arts, Professor Norman Cherry from University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom, Professor Kin Wai Michael Siu from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an SU wellknown alumni member whose "Golden Teardrop" masterpiece was selected to be displayed at a world most oldest art expo, the 55th “Venice Biennale 2013”, in Italy. The rector announced that a press conference on the three-day Art & Design 2018 event will be held at the SU Bangkok campus on August 14, when highlighted art and musical performances, as well as a fashion show will also be included.
