Sehwag becomes fastest Indian centurion in ODIs

Hamilton, Mar 11 (PTI) Swashbuckling opener Virender
Sehwag eclipsed Mohammad Azharuddin to become the fastest
Indian to score a hundred in an ODI when he hit a 60-ball 103
against New Zealand in the fourth one-dayer here Wednesday.

At an individual score of 97, Sehwag danced down the
pitch and plundered a Daniel Vettori delivery over his head to
bring up his hundred in the 18th over of the rain-truncated
match to better Azharuddin by two balls.

The Indian is now has the seventh fastest hundred in ODI
history, with Pakistan's Shahid Afridi topping the chart with
his 37-ball 102 against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996.

A former Indian captain, Azharuddin's 62-ball 108 had
also come against New Zealand in Baroda in 1988. Sehwag's
second fastest century (100 off 69 balls) is also against the
Kiwis in Colombo in 2001. PTI ATK
