S. Korea climb two spots to 44th in FIFA rankings

SEOUL, March 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea soared two notches to 44th place in the
FIFA rankings this month, helped by performances in the final Asian World Cup
qualifying round, according to the Web site of the world football governing body
monitored here on Wednesday.

South Korea, who seek their seventh World Cup ticket, drew with Iran 1-1 in a
qualifier for the 2010 World Cup last month. They also drew with their Syrian and
Bahrain counterparts in friendlies held prior to the qualifier.
Iran were ranked 42nd, FIFA said.
