W SUMATRA, S KOREA TO SIGN MoU ON BYPASS PROJECT

Padang, March 12 (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra provincial administration and the South Korean government are scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on construction of a 23-kilometer Padang Bypass in May this year.

"I will leave for South Korea in May to sign the agreement on a Rp300-billion road construction project," West Sumatra Governor Gamawan Fauzi said here on Thursday.
He said West Sumatra got the Padang Bypass project from the central government to make the province an economic center that would continue to develop well in the future.
"This road will be widened into two lanes in order to facilitate the transportation of goods from Teluk Bayur port to Minangkabau International Airport (BIM)," the governor said.
He added that the central government this year had disbursed Rp12 billion of funds to clear land for the road project which was expected to step up the province's economic growth.
According to the governor, road infrastructure in the province should be developed to facilitate the transportation of goods.
In addition, he said the runway of Minangkabau International Airport would be extended this year.
"With the optimization of airport, seaport, and road facility in West Sumatra, I am optimistic that the economic activity in the province will continue to develop," Gamawan Fauzi said.
