PM delights with first gold medal from Asian Games in Indonesia
BANGKOK, Aug 20 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has voiced his appreciation for the Thai taekwondo team for winning the first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
Government spokesman Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that Gen Prayut commended the Thai taekwondo team for winning the first gold in the women's team poomsae and gave his support for the entire Thai Asian Games contingent.
Phenkanya Phaisankiattikun, Kotchawan Chomchuen and Ornawee Sirisahakit won the final by the slightest possible margin.
Thailand beat South Korea 8.210 - 8.200 in the gold medal match in the taekwondo competition.
The poomsae discipline, which is an artistic exhibition of demanding movements, is featuring at the quadrennial Games for the first time.
Earlier Thailand won a bronze medal from Pongporn Suvittayarak in men's individual poomsae, the first medal by a Thai athlete in the 18th Games.
The spokesman said that Gen Prayut gave his support for the entire Thai contingent and hoped that they would do their best to garner the highest honor and pride for the entire country. (TNA)
