Foreign Ministry warns jobseekers to double-check their overseas employers
BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) -- The spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry has warned that the number of illegal Thai workers in South Korea has risen to tens of thousands, so jobseekers have to check the profiles of their job brokers and employers well.
Busadee Santipitaks, the spokesperson and director-general of the Information Department, said Thai workers should seek legal jobs in South Korea and other countries so that they would be protected by law and entitled to compensation when there was a problem.
She recommended jobseekers seriously check the registration of their prospective employers.
“If workers are illegal immigrants, they may be found in random checks by South Korean immigration police and rejected entry. If they are arrested in South Korea, they will be repatriated. This can cause immigration police to also reject real Thai tourists,” Ms Busadee said.
She also said that the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Affairs Department and the Thai embassy in Seoul were investigating a video clip allegedly showing Thai workers escaping South Korean immigration police into a forest.
She assured that the Foreign Ministry would help all Thai people living abroad. (TNA)
