Compensation prepared for Phetchaburi flood helpers

BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives will soon propose to the prime minister compensation for the farmers who accepted deluges to their land to save Phetchaburi province. Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Luck Wajananawat said the Royal Irrigation Department diverted deluges to about 750 rai of paddy fields and consequently flooding in Phetchaburi was limited. Therefore, the farmers deserved special assistance. Mr Luck also said that agricultural officials were visiting farmers affected by natural disasters nationwide to prepare assistance for them. Of about 5.7 million farmers’ households, 1 million were not included in the government’s official record of farmers. The minister urged them to update their registration with local authorities so that the government could later prepare flood-related assistance for them. (TNA)
