Special committee planned to attract foreign investors

BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) -- The government will form a special committee to facilitate foreign investment and the prime minister will chair it. Prime Minister’s Office Minister Kobsak Pootrakul said the new committee was aimed at attracting foreign investment and showing the government’s serious intention to develop the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) as an Industry 4.0 centre and a regional production base. The committee would integrate and facilitate investment projects. The Board of Investment and the EEC Policy Committee would be co-secretaries to the committee to help solve problems and obstacles for investors, Mr Kobsak said. The new committee would eradicate inconveniences resulting from some old regulations and laws, the minister said. He expected the government to announce its formation in a few weeks and the committee would start its work right away. In the past year, investors from Japan, South Korea and China visited the EEC site to study its potential. Mr Kobsak said the government was confident that the EEC was attractive to foreign investors. He also said that construction plans in the EEC made good progress and many construction contracts would be signed late this year including contracts of a railway to link Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports, the expansion of the Laem Chabang port and the construction of new urban zones.
