TAXPAYERS TOLD TO SUBMIT TAX RETURNS SOON

Jakarta, March 12 (ANTARA) - Director General of Taxation Darmin Nasution said taxpayers who have code numbers must submit their annual tax returns to the tax service offices no later than March 31, 2009.

"If they do not submit tax returns we will find them. And if they have tax obligation but do not submit tax returns, they will be liable to sanction," he said here on Wednesday night.

He expressed hope that taxpayers would submit their tax returns as soon as possible to avoid a long queue in the submission of tax returns in the last week of March.

"Experiences in the past years show many taxpayers submitted tax returns in the last week of March. We have made available tax returns at each tax service office," he said.

Under the taxation law, taxpayers could take tax returns from the tax service office with which they were registered, he said.

"We have issued a circular asking tax officers to make available tax return forms in all places, including tax service offices and regional tax offices as well as online," he said.

It was not difficult to fill tax returns particularly if taxpayers worked for one party, he said.

There were only four columns they had to fill, namely the amount of income, untaxed income, taxable income and tax due, he said.
