BEI INDEX OPENS 1.38 PERCENT HIGHER EARLY FRIDAY

Jakarta, March 13 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) opened 18.115 points or 1.38 percent higher, at 1,328.529, as investor sentiment was boosted by overnight gains in US markets pushing up automotive industry shares.

Indonesian and regional stocks started stronger mirroring Wall Street gains, Edwin Sinaga, a capital market observer, said here on Friday.

The stock market might continue to advance as market sentiment was still high, causing investors to be active in the market, he said.

Regional bourses such as those in Singapore, Japan and South Korea also advanced, following the Wall Street gains.

"We are optimistic that the BEI index will approach the figure of 1,350.00 points if such a favorable market condition continues," he said.

Automotive industry Astra International shares rose to Rp12,650 from Rp12,450 per share, cigarette company Gudang Garam shares surged from Rp12,500 to Rp12,700 per share, state telecommunication PT Telkom shares gained to Rp6,600 from Rp6,500 per share, Bank Danamon shares went up to Rp2,500 from Rp2,425, coal mining company Bukit Asam shares added from Rp6,950 to Rp7,050, and Inco shares increased from Rp1,990 to Rp2,025 per share.
