CT-6 TO ADOPT REGIONAL ACTION PLAN IN MANADO
Jakarta, March 13 (ANTARA) - Six countries grouped in CT-6 (Coral Triangle-6) are to adopt a Regional Action Plan at the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit to be held in Manado, North Sulawesi, on May 15, 2009, an Indonesian marine affairs official said.
The CTI Regional Action Plan will consist of five points which will include issues related to seascapes and the implementation of ecosystem-based fishery management, Marine and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi said in a press release received by ANTARA here on Friday.
The other points will concern protected marine areas, adaption to climate change, and cutting the number of endangered marine species on the list of the International Union For the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
At the first CTI ministerial level meeting that took place in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG), March 11 to 13, 2009, Minister Numberi had given his views on the draft Regional Action Plan.
On the occasion, he invited CT-6 member countries to participate in the upcoming World Ocean Conference (WOC) and CTI Summit, which will be held in Manado, May 11 to 15, 2009.
The CT-6 member countries are Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor Leste.
The WOC is expected to be also attended by representatives of the United States, Australia, and a number of NGOs such as WWF, TNC, CI, GEF, ADB, and Worldfish.
More than 2,500 delegates from 121 countries are expected to participate in the World Ocean Conference and the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Summit in Manado.
