DOCTORS ADVISE PRESIDENT TO TAKE REST
Jakarta, March 13 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been advised by his doctors to take a rest and reduce his activities for several days, presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said.
Mallarangeng made the statement upon arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma airport from Makassar (South Sulawesi) as a member of the president's entourage on Friday. But he did not say how many days exactly the head of state had to take a rest.
"Normally, all doctors will ask (such a patient) to take a lot of rest by, for example, reducing activities. For the time being, the president will take a rest for several days, and , of course, if he thinks he has fully recovered, he will resume his normal activities," Mallarangeng said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono suffered a gastric disorder during his working visit in South Sulawesi on Thursday and failed to attend a number of scheduled functions.
Mallarangeng said after taking a rest on Thursday night at the Imperial Aryaduta Hotel in Makassar where he was treated by presidential doctors, the president had generally recovered.
"The head of state has regained his good health. He even took the opportunity to observe the Celebes Center Point of Indonesia project before he went to the airport to return to Jakarta," he said.
However, on doctors' advice, the president had canceled his planned working visit to Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan on Friday. He assigned Coordinating Minister for the People's Welfare Aburizal Bakrie to represent him.
Besides recommending that the president take a rest, the doctors had also recommended much exercise.
"We will listen to what was recommended by the presidential doctors but, of course, the president has many activities on his agenda, and if he has recovered, he will surely attend to them again," Mallarangeng said.
Although he has to take a rest, the schedules for the president's participation in legislative election campaign activities beginning on March 16, 2009 would not be disrupted, he said.
"We still have time until next week," Mallarangeng added.
