Sales of mooncake to rise this year
BANGKOK, Sept 8 (TNA) -- Sales of mooncake, a Chinese bakery product, are projected to increase by 3.3 per cent during the annual festival this year, compared to same period last year, according to Kasikorn Research Centre.
Citing new flavours such as custard, green tea and macadamia plus innovative technology and social media in purchasing and delivering delicious round pastries, Kasikorn Research Centre has projected that sales would reach 930 million baht this year, up 3.3 per cent from last year.
The mooncake festival this year falls on September 24.
However, traditional flavours including durian and jujube are still popular among the consumers in this country, it said.
To justify its projection, the Centre said 12 per cent of the total buyers used high technology such as social media and home delivery service in sending the dessert.
Also, rosy economy in Thailand currently has helped boosted purchasing power of the people, it said.
The new generation of consumers are likely to buy mooncakes for own consumption or a gift not for the worshipping of the Moon Goddess just like in the past.
The trend plays vital role in boosting sales and they prefer new flavours rather than those traditional one, Kasikorn Research Centre added. (TNA)
