S. Korea, Peru agree to expand e-document cooperation

By Lee Joon-seung
SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea plans to support Peru in setting up an
e-document system designed to enhance administrative efficiency, the government
said Monday.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in Lima on Thursday calls for Seoul
to spend 300 million won (US$201,037) for a detailed study on establishing the
system, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said.
The study will cover the production, use and effect of e-documents and will
produce a basic blueprint for the Peruvian government, the ministry said.
The ministry in charge of the country's industrial and trade promotion policy
said that because South Korean companies will play a role in writing the
feasibility study, they may be in an advantageous position to win related deals
if Lima decides to introduce e-documents as part of its public operations.
E-documents can be examined and sent more efficiently than regular paper-based
documents and offer more streamlined sharing and reviewing of information, which
can lead to a better work environment.
In addition to the MOU, South Korean companies that accompanied Vice Minister Kim
Young-hak to the South American country will hold an information technology
roadshow to highlight advances made in the sector.
Companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK Broadband and Korea Electronics
Technology Institute will take part in the event to showcase technologies such as
wireless broadband, digital multimedia broadcasting and Internet protocol
television.
