ARMY RETIREES SUPPORT COALITION OF POLITICAL PARTIES

Jakarta, March 13 (ANTARA) - Army retirees support the coalition of political parties which will be taking part in the general elections this year with regard to developing a solid and strong government.
"A coalition will assure a more solid and stronger government," the general chairman of the executive board of the Association of Retired Army Members (PPAD), retired lieutenant general Soerjadi, said here on Friday.
He said history had proved that only with unity and cohesiveness could the country move forward. "No certain groups or quarters would be able to manage a country by themselves, but joint efforts would be needed," the army's former deputy chief of staff said.
He said army retirees were optimistic coalition of parties would contribute positively to the new government. "We are optimistic over the upcoming election because there has been growing understanding that noone can make a victory by himself. Coalitions that have been built by a number of political parties prove that noone believes he can win by himself," he said.
The PPAD meanwhile called on all people to use their voting right in the election to produce more qualitative legislative and executive members who were committed to the proclamation of independence, "Pancasila" state ideology and the 1945 constitution.
"To all active members of the defense forces (TNI) and the police force we appeal that they remain committed to the order of the TNI commander and the national police chief to stand neutral in the election," he said adding that the decison to disuse their voting right was intended for a higher purpose namely for the unity of the nation and the country.
