TEN MINISTERS TO CAMPAIGN FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE PARTIES
Jakarta, March 13 (ANTARA) - Ten cabinet ministers have applied for leave of absence to participate in their parties' campaigns for the legislative elections on April 9.
A member of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Sri Nuryanti, said here on Friday the KPU received a letter from the minister/state secretary on March 7 containing the schedules of ministerial leaves of absence in connection with the electoral campaigning period.
The 10 ministers who had applied for leave are Women's Role Empowerment Minister Meutia Hatta Swasono, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Suryadharma Ali, Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Freddi Numberi, Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Adhyaksa Dault and Backward Regions Development Minister Muhammad Lukman Edy.
The others are Law and Human Rights Minister Andi Mattalatta, Forestry Minister M.S. Kaban, Industry Minister Fahmi Idris, Administrative Reform Minister Taufik Effendi and Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik.
"We have reminded state officials that they are not allowed to use state facilities for campaigning. We hope no violations are made," she told reporters.
She said any state official found using state facilities during campaigning would be given a sanction, namely his or her campaign activity would be stopped.
Minister Meutia Hatta is scheduled to campaign for the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party in East Java on March 25 and West Kalimantan on March 30. Suryadharma Ali meanwhile is scheduled to campaign for the United Development Party in North Sumatra on March 18, South Kalimantan on March 27 and South Sulawesi on April 2 while Freddy Number for the Democrat Party in Jayapura on March 21 and Biak on March 28.
Adhyaksa Dault is scheduled to campaign for the Prosperous Justice Party in Central Sulawesi on March 24 and April 4 while Muhammad Lukman Edy for the National Awakening Party in Riau on March 23, March 30 an April 2 and Andi Mattalatta for Golkar Party in Southeast Sulawesi on March 20 and South Sulawesi on April 1.
MS Kaban is scheduled to campaign for the Moon and Star Party in Palembang on March 17, Jakarta on March 23 and Semarang on March 31 while Fahmi Idris for Golkar Party in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, on March 18, Bukittinggi on March 25 and Bangka Belitung on March 31 and Taufik Effendi for the Democrat Party in South Kalimantan on March 20, March 27 and April 2.
Jero Wacik meanwhile is scheduled to campaign for the Democrat Party in Jakarta on March 20, West Java and Banten on March 27 and East Java on April 3.
The outdoor campaigning will be carried out for 21 days from March 16 to April 5. The first day of campaigning would be used for peaceful joint campaigning in Jakarta.
