DUMAI TO BE DEVELOPED AS PALM OIL INDUSTRY CENTER
Pekanbaru, March 13 (ANTARA) - Dumai, a city in Riau province, will be developed as a palm oil industry center within the next two years, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Friday.
"Dumai will become a palm oil industry center within two years' time," he said at a meeting with Riau province's district heads and mayors.
Kalla asked Industry Minister Fahmi Idris who also attended the meeting to help realize the plan.
He said he had also asked Transportation Minister Syafii Djamal to improve the conditions of Dumai's sea port to support the effort to make the city a palm oil industry center.
The Vice President said the Riau provincial administration and the Dumai city government must work hard to realize the plan. He said the development program would benefit the people in the province in general economic terms, in infrastructure development terms in particular.
"With good planning and cooperation between the central, provincial and district administrations development in the region can certainly be increased," he said.
