YUDHOYONO TO CAMPAIGN IN WEST SUMATRA
Padang, Indonesia, March 14 (ANTARA) - Democrat Party Advisory Council chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to conduct an election campaign in Padang, West Sumatra on March 29, 2009, Governor Gamawan Fauzi said here on Saturday.
"Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi has called me and said that Yudhoyono would campaign in Padang," the governor said, adding that the schedule for the Democrat Party's campaign in West Sumatra was in accordance with the schedule set by the General Election Commission (KPU) from March 26 to 29.
But the governor said Yudhoyono had confirmed to come to Padang for election campaign on March 29, 2009.
Gamawan Fauzi asid that besides the Democrat Party advisory council chairman, other national political leaders such as Wiranto were also scheduled to campaign at a number of districts and municipalities in West Sumatra.
Asked about security condition in the province in the run up to the up-coming election, the governor said it was conducive because the local administration, political parties, and the candidates of regional representative council (DPD) had made an agreement earlier to conduct a peaceful election.
"The local administration, political parties, and the DPD members had made a peaceful declaration and therefore we hope that the legislative and presidential elections in the province will run in peaceful atmosphere," Governor Gamawan Fauzi said.***
