First shark net installed of Thai beach

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Sept 21 (TNA) – The country’s first shark net has been installed off a beach by the Hua Hin municipality after a tourist was attacked by a shark in April. The delay in the net installation was caused by the process to seek approval from many agencies. City clerk of the Hua Hin Municipality, Jeerawat Phramanee said the net attached to buoys has been erected 50 metres off Sai Noi beach at Khao Tao village, covering the distance of 300 metres at the depth of three metres. It was designed by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the installation used the budget of 400,000 baht from the Hua Hin municipality. The net will protect swimmers from sharks after a Norwegian tourist was bitten by a shark at his left ankle while swimming off the Sai Noi beach on April 15. (TNA)
