Thailand anticipates more capital inflows

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - The Bank of Thailand (BOT) says that the country's strong economic fundamentals may attract more capital inflows in the coming weeks. BOT Governor Veerathai Santiprabhob told journalists of the prospect after opening the BOT Symposium 2018 in Bangkok on Monday. Veerathai acknowledged that Thailand's clear timeframe on the country's new general election, set in early 2019, has also strengthened the Thai baht and drawn in more capital inflows. The BOT governor explained that the rising capital inflows have been caused by a liquidity excess on the global financial market, not from the difference in interest rates between countries. The BOT governor assessed, meanwhile, that Thailand should not be seriously affected if the US Federal Reserve (FED) decided later this week to further raise its key interest rate as the global market has already anticipated such the move of the US central bank.
