Two terror suspects sentenced to life, 15 years in jail

Two terror suspects sentenced to life, 15 years in jail Local Manama, Sept. 26 (BNA): Advocate-General and Terror Crimes Prosecution Chief, Chancellor Dr. Ahmed Al-Hammadi, said that the fourth High Criminal Court had issued a verdict, jailing a suspect for ten years and another for life, and revoking the citizenship of both. The defendants were found guilty of joining a terrorist group, attempted murder of a policeman, possessing and acquiring firearms and ammunition, as well as hiding money and weapons to be used in the activities of their terrorist group. According to the case documents, the Public Prosecution received a notification from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) indicating that the first suspect, who is a member of the Al-Ashtar Brigades terrorist organisation, had recruited the second suspect to join the terrorist organisation, work for it and serve its goals. Investigations and reliable confidential sources confirmed the information received by the Public Prosecution, and showed that the second suspect had received sums of money from the terrorist organisation, and retuned them at the request of its leaders in order to be used in funding the terrorist acts carried out by the terrorist group’s elements in Bahrain. The same defendant was also asked by the foreign-based leaders of the organisation to target security patrols by a firearm, and, as result, he inspected several sites, and chose one on the Shaikh Jaber Avenue in Sitra, where a patrol was stationed next to the Ahli Bank’s branch. Then, he was provided with a firearm, and on the 13/5/2017, he started committing his crime by firing at the policemen, but he failed to target them because of technical defects in the weapon and the bullets. The Public Prosecution leveled the charges against the suspects based on the statements of witnesses, their own confessions and technical evidence. The Advocate General confirmed that the defendants had been afforded full legal rights throughout the trial, adding that they have the right to appeal the ruling, and may challenge the Court of Appeals' verdict at the Court of Cassation as guaranteed by Bahraini law.
