PRESIDENT OPTIMISTIC ECONOMIC GROWTH TO REACH 4.5 PCT
Bogor, W Java, March 15 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed optimism this year's economic growth would still reach the 2009 State Budget of 4.5 percent.
"Practically all countries had corrected their growth to lower than expected, including the global economic growth corrected to minus. We will make a month-to-month correction, but both the government and House of Representatives had yet to revise the projected 4.5 percent growth," the President said during a press conference at his private home in Puri Cikeas, Bogor, Sunday.
In making the statement, the President was flanked by his wife, Madame Ani Yudhoyono, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and Presidential spokesman Andi Mallaranggeng.
The President said the government will take allout measures like the granting of Rp73.3 trillion in stimulus packages to boost consumption by the people.
"We will also constantly monitor the ungoing G-20 ministerial conference. We will do what we can in our country, and will support regional and global efforts," Yudhoyono said.
The President also said that he will attend the G-20 summit in London early in April 2009.
Earlier, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Indonesia takes part actively in discussing the re-arrangement of regional and global financial systems to prevent the financial crisis from recurring.
"In the G-20 meeting, Indonesia as a non-passive participant but takes part in discussing how the economy and financial sytem could be re-arranged, and needed to be adopted to prevent the crisis from recurring," she said.
To overcome the negative impact of this year's global crisis, the government applies the counter-cyclical system, in the form of stimulus aimed particularly to maintain and boost the purchasing power of the people and see that consumption by households grow 4 percent to 4.7 percent.
In addition, also to maintain corporate resilience in facing the global crtisis, and creating job opportunities, and overcoming the impact of dismissals, by building labor-intensive infrastructure projects.
The total sum of money allocated for the fiscal stimulus program reached Rp73.3 trillion, comprising taxation stimulus amounting to Rp56.3 trillion, and state expenditure stimulus Rp17 trillion.
The taxation stimulus consists of lower income tax, value added tax, and government-born import duty, and income tax relating to Article 21 and Article 25.
The state expenditure stimulus amounting to Rp17 trillion consists of spendings on infrastructure projects Rp12.2 trillion, and Rp4.8 trillion in direct subsidy and energy subsidy.***2***
