KALLA BELIEVES ELECTION CAMPAIGN WILL RUN PEACEFULLY

Jakarta, March 17 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said here on Monday he believed the legislative election campaign on April 9 this year would run peacefully.

"This is a democracy festivity which everyone must understand. We wish to assure people politely without violating any regulation. So clashes must not happen," he told newsmen.
He further said that this year the campaign period would be long but it had been arranged to assure that all parties would enjoy an equal opportunity.
"It seems mass mobilization would no longer become a main target. So God willing it will go peacefully," he said.
Regarding the preparations of his Golkar Party, Kalla said everything had been put in place. Kalla who is also the party's general chairman said that his party's community bases spread across the country. "Every region is important," he said.
The party's regional chapters recently reaffirmed their resolution to nominate Kalla as the party's candidate for the presidential election to be held later in July.
