Since all the men were taken to the war, the mother-in-law dominated the family. There were not enough men, and Jamilya was assigned heavy work - to transport grain to the station. Her assistants were her brother-in-law Seita and Daniyar, who returned from the war physically handicapped. The former soldier was at first gloomy and withdrawn. Jamila often made fun of him, but Daniyar endured everything and looked at her with admiration. Warm feelings arose between them, and the main character leaves the village with Daniyar to meet a new life. Local residents condemned her act, but Seit accepted the choice of the daughter-in-law - he could see the birth of true love.
