90 PCT OF TRADE MINISTRY'S BUDGET FOR BUYING LOCAL PRODUCTS

Jakarta, March 17 (ANTARA) - The trade ministry confirmed around 90 percent of its 2009 budget would be used to buy locally-produced goods and domestic services.

"All funds from the national budget must be used for buying domestic products except those spent abroad such as on buying paper for the Indonesia Trade Promotion Center as buying the product in Surabaya will raise the expenditures," the ministry's secretary, Ardiansyah Parman, said here on Tuesday.

He said the budget for the ministry's overseas unit was only around Rp2.5 billion of the ministry's total budget of Rp3.5 trillion. "Almost all of it would be spent at home," he said.

He said following the issuance of Presidential Decree Number 80 of 2005 the trade ministry had always referred to it with regard to expenditures.

The government has issued Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2009 requiring government offices to prioritize purchases on domestically produced goods and services.

Right now the ministry of industry is classifying the goods and services for reference for use in governement tenders. Of around 21 classifications the office has broken them down into 470 kinds of goods and services.
