NO PANDEMONIUM IN GENERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN IN BALI
Denpasar, Bali, March 17 (ANTARA)- A pandemonium of the general election campaigns has yet to breakout in Bali province following political parties' cultural parade to kick off an open campaign on Monday concurrently with the commemoration of the Galungan holidays.
Antara learned here Tuesday that political parties did not carry out an open campaign on the first day of the festifities.
Government and private offices had decided to close from March 17 to 19 this year as the Balinese Hindhu adherents are commemorating the Galungan festivity.
Some political parties and legislative member candidates had even removed their posters and party flags to pay respect to the Galungan festivities, Nyepi (last week of Balinese calendar when no work is done) and the Kuningan day.
The lowering of posters and flags of the political parties particularly happened in the main road to Sanur and Kuta beach which will become the location of the Melasti festifities and the washing of sacred traditional items.
Chairman of the provcincial general election commission (KPUD), Ketut Sukawati Lanang Perbawa, said the political parties in the province will resume their open campaigns on Friday (March 20), which will be participated in by several parties including Hanura, PKPB, PAN, PDK, Republikan and PBB.
The open campaign in the region would last until March 24, and from March 25 to 28 would become other holidays of the festifities of Nyepi and Kuningan days.
Of the national three-week open campaign, the effective campaigns in the region only last for 13 days.
Thus, some of the 38 political parties including the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) would merely get one day for campaigning during the 13 days.
Leaders of the political parties participating in the April 9 legislative elections in Jakarta on Monday launched their respective campaigns by making a joint pledge to campaign peacefully.
The declaration is contained in a statement of all the political parties to hold peaceful, orderly, and smart campaigns by following the law and regulations.
