Recession a boon for India's nuclear energy quest: official
New Delhi, Mar 17 (PTI) With global prices of nuclear
fuel and equipment softening following the current economic
slowdown, India is all set to scale up the nuclear energy
sector in the country.
"The current economic slowdown has turned to India's
advantage as the cost of nuclear fuel and equipment have come
down considerably.
"We have already started talking to a number of
international vendors for setting up high-energy efficiency
nuclear energy plants in the country," Prime Minister's
Special envoy on Climate Change Shyam Saran said recently at a
function here.
"It (current economic meltdown) is very good time for
India as we take initiative to spruce up our energy efficiency
sector in the country," he added.
Saran was also of the view that the Civil Nuclear Energy
Agreement will help the country to have better energy security
as well enable clean energy to deal threats of global warming.
