TAUFIQ KIEMAS TO INVITE CHAIRMAN OF DEMOCRAT PARTY
Jakarta, March 18 (ANTARA) - Taufiq Kiemas, chairman of the Central Advisory Board of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) will invite the chairman of the Democrat Party (PD) at his residence here next week.
The meeting with Hadi Utomo, chairman of the Democrat Party, which was founded by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, would discuss national and state issues, Kiemas told the press here on Tuesday evening prior to a meeting with PDIP cadres.
"This time, we will invite Mr. Hadi Utomo for a meal at our residence in Jakarta next week," he said.
Kiemas, the husband of Megawati Soekarnoputri, said PDIP was ready to meet all political parties' leaders as long as the momentum was right.
He said that he would also meet Surya Paloh, chairman of the Golkar Party's Advisory Board, to discuss the national and state issues, following a recent meeting between PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and Golkar Chairman M Jusuf Kalla, the country's current vice president.
"PDIP and Golkar share the same platform and ideology, so that meetings between leaders of the two parties which gained the majority votes in The 2004 General Elections, could help solve the national and state problems," he said.
Megawati Soekarnoputri, a former Indonesian president, and M Jusuf Kalla, signed a five-point agreement in their meeting last Thursday (March 12).
Firstly, both sides agreed to develop a strong government in order to create advancement for the nation and prosperity for the people. Secondly, both sides agreed to strengthen the government in the presidential system based on the message of the 1945 Constitution, a government which has a strong basis of support in the parliament.
They agreed in the third point to strengthen the economic system in order to carry out reliant and sovereign economic system which is oriented to the people's interest. Fourthly, they agreed to foster close political communications as a manifestation of responsibilities of PDIP and Golkar, which were the winners in the 1999 and 2004 general elections.
Fifthly, they agreed to usher in the successful implementation of the upcoming 2009 general elections based on the principles of fairness, justness, directness and freedom as well as on the peaceful and respectable principles.***
