S. Korea beats Japan to reach semifinals of WBC

SAN DIEGO, March 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korea defeated its archrival Japan 4-1 in
their third match in this year's World Baseball Classic in San Diego on Tuesday,
advancing to the semifinals of the international baseball tournament.
South Korean team scored three in the first inning with a two-run single by Lee
Jin-young, while Japan managed to score one run in the top fifth.
South Korean starter Bong Jung-keun walked three and struck out one but gave only
one run during 5 1-3 innings. He led the impressive 1-0 win in the second game
against Japan in the regional round held in Tokyo last week.
Team Korea will meet the winner of the Cuba-Japan rematch, slated for Wednesday,
to vie for the top seed of the Pool One.
