US EMBASSY OFFICIAL VISITS PAPUA KPU OFFICE

Jayapura, INDONESIA, March 16 (ANTARA) - A political officer at the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Mathew Cenzer and his assistant Delly Tjahjana, visited the Papua office of the General Elections Commission (KPU) here on Wednesday.

Mathew Cenzer and his wife were received by provincial KPU chairman Benny Sweny who briefed them on preparations for the upcoming legislative election.

After receiving Cenzer, Benny Sweny said the visit by US embassy official was to obtain first hand information about the preparations for the election in Papua.

"We have explained everything related to the election to the US embassy official," Benny said, adding that the embassy had expressed readiness to help Papua provincial KPU in technical and non-technical matter.

Benny said he also explained about the shortage of operational funds at the KPU office.

He added that the US embassy was enthusiastic and gave credit point to the democratic development in Indonesia.***
