OIL CONTRACTORS TRANSFER RP2 TRILLION IN RESTORATION FUNDS TO STATE

Jakarta, March 19 (ANTARA) - A number of oil and gas contractors have transfered Rp2 trillion in restoration funds to the state on a recommendation from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said.

The contractors transfered the funds through the Oil and Gas Regulating Body (BP Migas) at the KPK building here on Thursday.

Yusgiantoro said the restoration funds consisted of US$45.52 million from PT Pertamina EP, US$10.89 million from PT Medco E&P, US$5.21 million from Kondur Petroleum SA, US$809.9 thousands from Kangean Energy Indonesia and US$448.7 thousands from Kalrez Petroleum Ltd.

The minister said the funds were usually kept in the contractors' accounts had now been transferred to the government's account.

Besides the restoration funds, a number of contractors also transferred funds derived from the correction in the calculation of the Investment Credit incentives made in 2006 and 2007, amounting to US$104.7 million.

The investment credit is an incentive package provided by the government with an aim of attracting investors in the upstream oil and gas business.

KPK Chairman Antasari Azhar appreciated the government and the contractors for their immediate response to the anti-graft body's recommendation.

The KPK chairman said that the commission has issued the recommendation because it saw that the oil and gas sector was not managed well.

The transfer of the funds from the contractors to the state is a result of the KPK efforts to prevent the potential loss that the state could suffer.

"This is proof of an effort to prevent a potential loss and to return the money to the state," Azhar said.

In the meantime, the BP Migas chief R Priyono said that the transfer of the funds to the state was an initial step where other contractors were expected to follow suit, whose number reached hundreds of companies.

"This will not stop until here because oil and gas business will continue to go on," he said.***
