The Sigma-class corvette was designed uniquely in accordance with the model and form of Integrated Geometrical Modularity Approach (SIGMA) which has a flexibility and affordability as a naval patrol ship capable of confronting all kinds of weather.

Indonesia had ordered four missile-equipped corvettes from the Schelde naval shipyard in January 2004. The first ship arrived in August last year, the second early 2008, and the third ship in December 2008, while the fourth ship is expected to arrive mid 2009.
The first and second Sigma-class corvettes were named respectively KRI Diponegoro and KRI Hasanuddin in September 2006.
Meanwhile, KRI Kura-830 is a speed patrol ship, which has a length of 40 meters, draft 7.35 meters, a dead weight of 100 tons, and a maximum speed capacity of 29 knots.
The Indonesian Navy had planned to acquire 22 corvettes in the years ahead until 2024 with some of the warships to be built by state-owned ship-building company PT PAL in Surabaya, East Java.
