PKS CHIEF: 2009 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION "GRAVE" FOR MANY POLITICIANS

Medan, Indonesia, March 19 (ANTARA) - A party leader said here on Thursday the presidential election this year would be a "grave" for many aspirants because most of them were now in their late fifties or older than 60 years.

"For them it will be a question of now or never," Tifatul Sembiring, president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), said when campaigning for the legislative election on April 9.

He said the presidential election that would be held later in July would also be the end of a political generation. Therefore, he appealed to all PKS cadres to continue promoting change.

Change , he said, could only be realized if young politicians were given ample opportunities to do what was best for the state and nation.

PKS, he said, would fight for a candidate who was below fifty years old.

On the occasion he also called on PKS cadres and the general public to participate in creating a change by eradicating dirty politicians in the legislative body.

"We must change. We must be able to change our legislative body whose condition is now very concerning because it is full of politicians who like abusing power. 'Garbage in garbage out' is what we are seeing now," he said.

In view of that he called on all PKS cadres and sympathizers not to choose corrupt politicians. "Do not choose them. It is time for people to make a change because our children and grandchildren have a right to get better than what is offered now," he said. ***
