FORMER OPM FIGURE IN NETHERLANDS TO VISIT PAPUA

Jayapura, March 20 (ANTARA) - Nicolaas Jouwe, a former Free Papua Organization (OPM) figure who has been living in the Netherlands for years, is to visit his birthplace in Papua in the next few days, a Papua autonomy advocacy group spokesman said.
Franz Albert Yoku, a member of the Independent Group Supporting the Autonomous Region of Papua with the Republic of Indonesia (IGSSARPRI), told Antara here Friday, Jouwe departed from the Netherlands on Tuesday (March 17) for Jakarta en route to his birthplace in Papua.

"Nicolaas Jouwe left the Netherlands on Tuesday for Jakarta, but before flying to Papua, he will meet with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono," Yoku said, adding that Jouwe had not seen his birthplace since Papua integrated with the Indonesian motherland in 1963.

Yoku said Jouwe would make a special trip to his birthplace at the invitation of the Indonesian government. It was hoped Jouwe's visit would strengthen the ties between Jakarta and the people of Papua, he added.

Jouwe was traveling to Indonesia accompanied by his daughter, Nancy Jouwe, and his son, Nico Jouwe. In Jakarta, he hoped to have a constructive dialog with President Yudhoyono.
