Two Koreas to reopen military communication lines following S. Korea-U.S.
By Sam Kim
SEOUL, March 20 (Yonhap) -- North Korea will reconnect its military communication lines with South Korea on their east coast starting Saturday morning, a defense official in Seoul said.
"North Korea has just notified South Korea of its plan by fax," South Korean
defense ministry spokesman Won Tae-jae said.
The lines had been cut as part of North Korea's protest over an annual joint
South Korea-U.S. military exercise that ended its 12-day run on Friday.
The notice was received through the joint inter-Korean industrial complex in the
North Korean border city of Kaesong, where hundreds of South Koreans remain
barred from returning home, Won said.
The lines will starting working as of 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Won said, adding the
military lines on the west remain out of operation due largely to technical
problems.
