PRABOWO PROMISES CHANGE FOR THE PEOPLE

Medan, N Sumatra, March 20 (ANTARA) - Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party leader Prabowo Subianto said his party would bring about change for the people if it won the legislative election on April 9.
"The people have long been deceived by high sounding promises," he said at a Gerindra campaign rally here Friday.
He said Gerindra would lead the change that had long been dreamed of by the people. Therefore, he called for support from the people to improve jointly with them the condition of their life.
The former military officer also called on the people to monitor the implementation of the election to avoid possible rigging by irresponsible people.
Three top singers highlighted the party's campaign rally which was attended by thousands of people.
Former Indonesia Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) figure Permadi and noted Moslim preacher Zainuddin MZ were among the campaign speakers at the rally.
Permadi said that although Gerindra was a new party it was not afraid to compete with the longer establshed parties.
A total of 44 political parties including six local parties in Aceh will elect 560 members of the House of Representatives (DPR) and also members of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) and members of provincial and district legislative assemblies in the election.
The legislative election will in July be followed by a presidential election in which Prabowo Subianto also intends to contest.
