THOUSANDS ATTEND DEMOCRATIC PARTY'S CAMPAIGN RALLY IN DENPASAR



Denpasar, March 21 (ANTARA) - Thousands of people attended a campaign rally of the Democratic Party (PD) at Padang Galak Square here on Saturday.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, chairman of PD's advisory board, left Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakarta, for Denpasar on Saturday morning to lead the campaign rally.
The rally was lustered up by traditional Balinese music and songs as well as those provided by several noted bands such as Andra and The Backbones and The Changcuters, and a number of famous singers including Ike Nurjanah and Dewi Yull.
Last Friday (March 20), Yudhoyono who is on leave as president to support the Democratic Party's campaign activities, led the first open campaign rally of the Democratic Party in Senayan, Jakarta.
On Sunday (March 22), he will campaign at Karebosi Square in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and later in the day proceed to Palembang, South Sumatra.
He will be in Bandung, West Java, next Friday (March 27) and later to Serang, Banten Province, to attend campaign rallies.
Next Saturday (March 28), Yudhoyono will campaign at the Teladan stadium in Medan (North Sumatra), and on Sunday (March 29) he will be in Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, and Padang, West Sumatra Province.
President Yudhoyono will leave for London, the United Kingdom, on Monday (March 30), to attend the G-20 Summit.
After returning from London, he will again campaign for the Democratic Party which he founded, in Bangkalan, Madura Island, and then in Surabaya, East Java Province, on Friday.
On Saturday (April 4), he will be in Yogyakarta, and the next day, April 5 (the last day of the campaign period), he will visit Magelang, Ambarawa and Semarang in Central Java province.
Indonesia will hold legislative elections on April 9, 2009, and the campaigning period is from March 16 to April 5, 2009. The country's second direct presidential election will be held on July 8, 2009.
