Kasab's tryst with Gandhi

Mumbai, Mar 21 (PTI) Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the lone
terrorist captured in the Mumbai terror attacks, is getting an
insight into the life of the apostle of peace, Mahatma Gandhi.

Kasab, kept in isolation in the high security Arthur Road
prison in central Mumbai, is reading Urdu translation of
Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography `My Experiments With Truth'.

"Prisoners are generally given books as part of reforms
and recreation programmes. Jail authorities have told us that
Kasab has been given Urdu translation of Gandhi's book and he
is reading it," TRK Somaiya, Programme Coordinator of Bombay
Sarvodaya Mandal Gandhi book centre, told PTI.

"I hope this will evoke a sense of regret in the mind
of Kasab," he said.

Sarvodaya Mandal also conducts Gandhi Peace Exams and
screening of the films on the Father of the Nation in jails of
Maharashtra. "Recently, Mandal conducted Gandhi Exam in the
Chandrapur district jail where some of the inmates appeared
for it. We have received encouraging feedback from the
inmates," said Somaiya.

Kasab was part of the group of ten militants which
attacked Hotels Taj Mahal, Oberoi, CST railway station and
Nariman House on November 26 last year. Over 160 people,
including foreigners and policemen, were killed in the
attacks. PTI VM
