MEGAWATI WISHES TO WIN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN ONE ROUND

Yogyakarta, Indonesia, March 21 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP)'s presidential aspirant, Megawati Soekarnoputri, expressed hope the party's cadres would make all possible efforts to win the upcoming presidential election in just one round.

"The PDIP has nominated me to run in the upcoming presidential election and therefore I ask the party's cadres and political machine at all levels of the community to win the election in just one round," Megawai said in a political oration at Denggung square in Sleman district, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Saturday.

Megawati admitted that in the 2004 presidential election she failed to be elected as president after she lost the second round.

"There is no need for a second round in the election this year. Therefore, we have to win at least 50 percent plus one of the vote in the first round through good consolidation among the party's cadres and political machine," Megawati said.

She said with the support of the party's cadres and the people, her failure in the 2004 presidential election would be redeemed in this year's election.

"I expect serious support from the cadres and the people who must try hard to win this year's legislative and presidential elections," Megawati said.

The PDIP chairperson also called on the party's cadres to keep on guard against possible fraud in the voting and ballot counting processes later.

"The processes of voting and ballot counting should be closely monitored to avoid fraud that can be detrimental to PDIP," Megawati said.

She made her political oration in less than 30 minutes during the campaign rally in the midst of heavy rain attended by around 30,000 party cadres and sympathizers.

The PDIP campaign activity was also marked by a parade of hundreds of motor vehicles that jammed the streets leading toward Denggung Square in Sleman district.***
