ANDREA HIRATA, HABIBURRAHMAN RECEIVE `PARAMADINA` AWARD
Jakarta, March 21 (ANTARA) - Two noted writers - Andrea Hirata and Habiburrahman el-Shirazi - received Paramadina awards, an appreciation from the Paramadina University, conferred on them on the occasion of graduation ceremony at the Paramadina campus here on Saturday.
Paramadina University's Rector Anies Baswedan PhD in his press release said that Andrea Hirata who wrote a novel on "Laskar Pelangi" (rainbow warrior) was assessed as having succeeded in realizing many people on the need to struggle for education.
The writer from Belitung succeeded in featuring his novel with full of colour and rich in nuances, thus implying the hardworking spirit to welcome the flow of modernization.
Through his sincere and humble naration, Andrea could attract the attention of many people over the condition of education in this country, he said.
Andrea's novel made us aware on the potrait of our education was much from ideal and therefore we have to work hard to make progress in education, Anies said.
In the meantime, Habiburrahman el-Shirazi was deemed as having succeeded in making us contemplate on the meaning of Islamic way of life under Indonesian condition, the two main themes which came up as the pillar of Paramadina University.
Habiburahman has been able to illustrate the life of male and female muslims in modern era by upholding the relidious values they believe in.
In fact, the modernity has made their belief become stronger and their love on the nation to improve and their intention to make the community record a progress.
"With a narration style like the flow of Nile River in Egypt, Habiburrahman reminds us on the importance of Islam as the beloved region, namely Islam is friendly and a nice-looking," he said.
According to Anis, the appreciation was only aimed at showing the spirit not to easily bog down and surrendur, but remaining optimistic to make it function as a lesson for the younger generations. ***
