NURWAHID: DIRECT CASH ASSISTANCE SHOULD NOT BE POLITICIZED
Bengkulu, Indonesia, March 21 (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly Chairman Hidayat Nur Wahid called on all parties to avoid politicizing the direct cash assistance (BLT) program and raising the matter as topic in party election campaigns.
"BLT is a government program to help poor families, so that nobody is allowed to politicize it for campaigning purposes ," Nurwahid said in his oration during the campaign of his Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) in Rejang Lebong district, Bengkulu, on Saturday.
He also hoped that all political parties would watch over the distribution of BLT, so that it really reaches eligible receipients.
"We certainly do not hope that just because of the district head is from a certain political party, BLT is only channeled to residents which happen to the party's sympathizers," he said.
Nurwahid was optimistic that his party would not make use of BLT distribution for the party's interest, even though the vice governor of Bengkulu was also a PKS cadre.***
