S. Korea drubs Venezuela 10-2 to reach WBC final
LOS ANGELES, March 21 (Yonhap) -- Choo Shin-soo belted a three-run homer and Kim
Tae-kyun added a two-run shot to lead South Korea to a 10-2 victory over
Venezuela Saturday and to the final of the World Baseball Classic (WBC).
With the win, reigning Olympic champion South Korea will face off against the
winner of Sunday's U.S.-Japan semifinal for the title of baseball's premier
tournament on Monday.
South Korea scored five runs in the top of the first inning as Choo of the
Cleveland Indians, who was 1-for-10 before the match, smacked the homer to center
field. Kim hit the long ball to left in the top of the second, making it 7-0.
Ko Young-min scored another run in the top of the fourth following a miscatch by
Venezuela's first baseman Miguel Cabrera. South Korea added two more runs in the
top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly and another catch error by Venezuela.
Melvin Mora singled in a run in the bottom of the third for Venezuela and Carlos
Guillen hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
