FORESTRY MINISTER TO SUBMIT DECISION ON VILLAGE FORESTS IN JAMBI
Jambi, March 23 (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister MS Kaban and Home Minister Mardiyanto will submit a decision on rural forest areas and their management to residents of Lubuk Beringin village in Bungo district, Jambi province.
"The two ministers are scheduled to submit decisions to Bungo district head and the Jambi Governor who will be in charge of giving them to residents of Lubuk Beringin village on March 30, 2009," Director of the Indonesian Conservation Community of Warsi Jambi Ir. Rakhmat Hidayat said here on Monday.
The submission of the decision covering 2,356 hectares of forested land in the protected Rantau Bayur Bukit Panjang forest in Lubuk Beringin village will be attended by the governors of Bali and South Sulawesi.
Village forest in Bungo district of Jambi is the first in Indonesia. The villagers proposed for village forest facilitated by KKI-Warsi of Jambi, because of its benefit to improve the welfare of the local community, to secure water supply from the river to generate electricity for the village.
According to Rahmat, the Rantau Bayur conservation forest has an important meaning for the residents of Lubuk Beringin village, because residents of forest management and utilization as long as it was conducted wisely and sustainably in accordance with traditional rulings.
