GARUDA FLIGHT SWITCHED TO NAGOYA AFTER NARITA ACCIDENT
Tokyo, Mar 23 (ANTARA) --The flight of a Garuda Indonesia airliner registration no GA-880 had been switched from Narita airport to Nagoya airport, following the accident of the FedEx cargo plane at the main Japanese airport on Monday at 6.50 a.m local time.
Nagoya General Manager of Garuda Indonesia M. Riza Perdana Kusuma said in Tokyo Monday that the decision to flight switch had already been notified by Narita at 7.30 a.m following coordination with the Garuda head office.
"Since then I made the necessary preparations to welcome the 380 Garuda passengers at Nagoya airport," Riza said.
The Nagoya Garuda office immediately sought charter buses while waiting for the arrival of the Garuda airliner whose flights covered the Jakarta-Denpasar-Tokyo route scheduled to arrive at 9 a.m., securing charter is not as easy as in Jakarta.
Later the Nagoya Garuda office decided to provide a consumption in the form of 10,000 yen (about Rp 1 million) in transportation cost to each passenger.
Up till Monday night (Mar 23) Narita was still closed for intensive investigations on the accident, in which the FedEx cargo plane caught fire at the runway of Narita.
Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) were forced to cancel their 75 flights, mostly international flights, which had an impact on the interest of about 20,000 passengers.
At least two people were killed in the accident of the American FedEx cargo plane at the Narita airport.
