KAK SETO: POLITICAL PARTIES MUST CARE FOR CHILDREN'S RIGHTS
Semarang, March 23 (ANTARA) - Chairman of the National Commission for Child Protection, Seto Mulyadi, called for political parties' care for children's rights here on Monday.
He made the statement in response to the involvement of children in campaign rallies.
"For the sake of the welfare of the children's psychological development, it is hoped all political parties' leaders would advise their followers not to bring their children along when participating in campaign rallies," he said.
In connection with the problem he said the commission had met with the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bwaslu) and the General Elections Commission (KPU).
"We have reminded them of the importance of asking political parties' leaders, executives and members to not involving children in the campaign," he said.
He said children's participation in election campaigns was prohibited by law.
He said the meeting had agreed to ask the police to strictly enforce the law during the campaign period. "The police must take firm actions against violations of campaign rules," he said.
Police had ticketed violators of traffic regulations and in view of that "firm actions must also be taken against violators of the law on general elections and child protection," he said.
