XINHUA EXPECTED TO BE INFLUENTIAL NEWS AGENCY IN OANA
Jakarta, March 23 (ANTARA) - Xinhua was expected to be an influential news agency in the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) by keeping on providing news in the form of texts and photos to the organization, ANTARA's President Director A Mukhlis Yusuf said.
Xinhua was also expected to play a greater role by among others hosting OANA's executive board meeting next year, Mukhlis said at a meeting with a visiting Xinhua deg elation led by its vice president, Liu Yue, here Monday.
On the occasion, Mukhlis also hoped that Xinhua would be ready to host an event on global warming initiated by ANTARA and UNEP (United Nations Environment Program).
"The event is also expected to promote China as it will be attended by 41 members of OANA from 33 countries," he said, adding that the concrete proposal was to hold media training on global warming.
In the meantime, ANTARA's Chief Editor Saiful Hadi hoped ANTARA and Xinhua could also exchange news photos and audio visual products instead of news texts.
"I learn that a TV station will be established here and produce news in Chinese language. This is an opportunity for Xinhua to promote its products," Hadi said, adding that in that regard, ANTARA would help Xinhua market its news stories.
He also said that ANTARA wished to cover activities of Indonesian Muslims in China by sending its journalists, photographers and cameramen to that country while Xinhua was also expected to cover activities of the Chinese community in Indonesia.
"This is an effort to make relations between the Indonesian and Chinese people closer," he said.
Regarding Xinhua's readiness to host an event on global warming, Liu Yue said he would bring the matter to other leaders of Xinhua for further discussions. "In September this year coinciding with the world media summit, Mukhlis could meet Xinhua's leadership to discuss the matter," he said.
On the occasion, Liu Yue hailed ANTARA for its contribution to the development of OANA and he said Xinhua continued to find ways and new strategy to develop itself in the hope it could also give contribution for further development of the organization.
He also said that the visit of his delegation to ANTARA could further strengthen the two sides' friendship and cooperation in all aspects.
Concerning Hadi's suggestion on the exchange of photos and audio visual products, Liu said this was a very good chance and he hoped it could be materialized soon through the two news agencies' cooperation.
